Well if you wonder why you should know about it just watch the video clip below.

If I made my point shall we begin?

What is the internet?

The name internet is referred to an interconnected network of computers (hence, internet). It is the global network of the networks that carry data over wires, cable, and wi-fi radio signals. Basically, it is a bunch of connected computers. In other words, it is an infrastructure that consists of things like mail, web, online gaming, streaming services, file sharing.

How did it started?

The main functional model of the Internet came in the last part of the 1960s with the formation of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. Initially financed by the U.S. Department of Defense, ARPANET utilized packet changing to allow various computers to interconnect on a single network.

How does it work?

It works through a packet routing network in line with several protocols. Protocols are a set of rules that determine how devices communicate over the network. The most basic ones are the TCP (Transport Control Protocol) and IP (Internet protocol). When the data is sent over the internet it is divided into small fragments called packets. Each packet moves through the internet independently from one another until it reaches the final destination. Along the way, packets pass by several routers. This process is called HOP. Routers are the devices that are responsible for moving packets from the source device to the destination device.

The one that determines where to send packages is the IP protocol. Every device has its own unique address which is called an IP address. It is done by packaging messages into diagrams. Diagram has 2 components: headers and payloads.

The headers have the information necessary for routing properly to the destination and the destination’s IP address.

Payloads contain the data being sent.

TCP is the protocol that defines how to send packages. It is common for packets to arrive out of order. It is TCP’s job that put the order and check if any packet is missing. The header of every packet contains information about its order number. Once all the packets are in place TCP assembles them into original form and transmission is completed.
